Handy One® Low Temperature Aluminum, The Right Product at the Right Temperature
MILWAUKEE, WI (March 16, 2009)—Lucas Milhaupt, Inc., a Handy & Harman Company, has introduced a new option for brazing aluminum components, Handy One alloy AL-822.
A large HVAC OEM manufacturer was facing difficulties converting their HVAC coils from copper to aluminum. A major concern was the small temperature window between the melting point of the aluminum base metal and traditional aluminum braze filler metals without replacing their current capital equipment.
Lucas Milhaupt worked with the OEM and introduced Handy One AL-822. AL-822 gave them a larger temperature window to braze their aluminum coils without overheating the aluminum base metal, which was a concern. Their pre-production trials are completed and AL-822 met their strength, corrosion and production line requirements. Lucas Milhaupt engineers assisted in the equipment setup and the design of the aluminum flux cored preform brazing ring to meet the performance criteria of the OEM.
Lucas Milhaupt can provide AL 822 in a number of different forms including: spooled flux cored wire, flux cored rods, and flux cored preforms. Our engineers can assist in proper alloy selection, proper joint design, and preform design for optimizing a brazing process. In addition to common chemical compositions, Lucas Milhaupt can provide flexible flux and alloy compositions of AlZnSi and AlZn to satisfy the needs of your particular application.
