The Effect of Joint Clearance on Braze Joint Strength
Having trouble with braze joint strength? Check your joint clearance. Brazing uses capillarity to distribute molten filler metal between base metals. When the clearance is narrow and you are brazing with flux, it is difficult for the flux to flow. Capillary action can be inhibited, resulting in reduced strength of the braze alloy. We will explore ideal clearances for various fillers and heating methods, plus base metal properties, joint design and metallurgical interaction.
